1. Can Heatgard save electricity consumption for cooling?

ANSWER: Based on research, for each degree you raise your thermostat setting, you reduce seasonal cooling cost by 6 to 10 percent. With Heatgard, the room temperature can be reduced by 3-5ºC (see graphic).

Average room temperature reduction in the Heatgard house is 1.5ºC. Thus, with Heatgard we can save cooling energy up to 15%.

Cost calculation of cooling electricity saving per month can be simulated as below: Based on Basic Rate of Electricity (Tarif Dasar Listrik/TDL)

  • Type R1 (< 2200 VA), 1 kWH = Rp 320,- for usage up to 20 kwh.
  • Type R2 (2200 VA – 6600 VA), 1 kwh = Rp 575,-
  • Type R3 (>6600 VA), 1kwh = Rp 621,-

As an illustration : a house with 2 floors (a family with 2 children) has 4 Air Conditioners (AC); (2 AC @ 1.5 HP(=1.5 PK) for master bed room and living room, and 2 AC @ 1 HP for children’s rooms). Total power = 5 HP (=3750 watt) and average of usage is 12 hours per day. So cooling cost per month is:

2. How Heatgard, as a green product, can preserve  the environment?

ANSWER: Indirectly, Heatgard can slow down global warming through the energy saving and consequently reduce CO2 emission.
Air conditioner electricity saving of 15% (see no.1), for one 1 HP AC  = 0.15x0.75 kWHx12x30 = 40.5 kWH

The CO2 emission coefficient for Indonesia (IPPC, 1998) is 781.2621 gr/kWh.

Consequently the CO2 emission reduction = 40.5 kWh x 781.2621 gr/kWH = 31.641 kg.

CO2  is the greatest contributor  (almost 75%) to the greenhouse effect that causes global warming.

3. What does Heatgard do to cool the room temperature as compared to rooms without Heatgard?

ANSWER: Heatgard is specially formulated to reflect heat from the sunlight Infra red rays and prevent the heat from penetrating the substrate.

The heat, which is not reflected, can  be further  reduced as Heatgard  also acts as a heat insulator (heat conductivity of Heatgard = 0.1 W/m.K).

Outer wall surface temperature difference between unpainted and Heatgard coated surfaces can reach up to 15 °C , and inner room temperature reduction can be reached between 1-5°C , depending on Heatgard coating thickness, air circulation, and outside ambient temperature.

4. What is the durability of Heatgard performance?

ANSWER: as long as the adhesion of Heatgard to the substrate is maintained, then Heatgard’s effectiveness is guaranteed. To obtain maximum performance, please follow the application instruction on the packaging.

5. Can Heatgard be diluted with water?

ANSWER: Heatgard is a ready-to-use product, so for best results DO NOT dilute with water.

6. Can Heatgard be applied on polycarbonate?

ANSWER: Heatgard can be applied on polycarbonate. Make sure the surface is clean.

7. Can Heatgard be overpainted with any wall paint?

ANSWER: Heatgard should not be overpainted, as it will lose its heat reflective performance.

8. Can Heatgard be applied directly on walls/substrates that are already coated?

ANSWER: If the substrate is coated with Aquaproof, it is sufficient to ensure that the coating still has good adhesion to the substrate and the surface to be coated is free of dust and dirt; then Heatgard can be directly applied to the coated surface.

However, if the coating is just normal wall paint, then the wall paint must be taken off, in order for Heatgard to have good adhesion to the substrate.

For metal/galvanized metal roofing that has been painted with a good paint and the adhesion of the paint is still good, the roof can be overpainted with Heatgard after the surface has been cleaned of dust and other dirt.
